Oualid Naciri – Master Guide
Oualid is the principal owner-operator of Desert Travel Services. He was born and raised M’hamid, a small village in the Zagora province in southeast Morocco. M’hamid is the last stop before entering the Sahara and is historically important as the site where trade caravans traveled before setting off to Timbuktu.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Agadir in 2006, Oualid entered the tourism business and has spent the last ten years guiding visitors on business and vacation throughout Morocco.
Oualid is fluent in several languages, including English, French, Arabic, and Berber. He also holds a basic command of Spanish, German and Italian.
Mustapha El Fertass
Mustapha was born and raised as a nomad in the desert of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. However, due to a lack of rain, his family had to abandon their nomadic life and now resides in an ancestral house in the village of Erfoud.
He got his start in the travel industry by accompanying multi-day camping treks into the dunes with camels. Although he is happiest introducing visitors to the majestic Saharan desert, Mustapha frequently escorts travellers through the mountains and west to Agadir.
Mustapha speaks English, French, Moroccan Arabic, and Hassani, (a dialect spoken by the nomadic people in Western Sahara). He also understands some Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese.
